Treatment Accountability to Safer Communities (T.A.S.C.)
T.A.S.C. is the case management component of working with youth that are placed in the Montgomery County Juvenile Court’s Drug Court Program. Judge Anthony Capizzi presides over our Drug Court program. On average, drug court provides services to approximately eighty-five youth and families. The typical length of the drug court program is nine months. Youth and their families participating in the drug court program are afforded the opportunity to work with both case managers and drug specialists.
Drug Specialists focus on the actual substance abuse of the youth. Case managers focus on the major life areas impacted by the youth abusing drugs (i.e., school, family dynamics, etc.). The collaborative efforts between the case managers and the drug specialist allow youth and families to receive maximum services, which increases the likelihood of success. All youth in the Drug Court/TASC program are exposed to a formalized treatment that may be standard, intensive outpatient or residential treatment. The determination as to what level of care the youth receives is based on his or her individualized alcohol and drug assessment. In addition, youth receive aftercare (ongoing services) upon completing formalized treatment. These aftercare services include but are not limited to AA meetings, NA meetings, and so on.
As a result of monies received from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the assistance of Reclaiming Futures, our youth have the unique opportunity to connect with mentors in the community called Natural Helpers, which support and encourage each youth in his or her daily struggles. These mentors are linked with each participant in the Drug Court Program.
